Level: Adults Beginners - A2
Skill: Listening and speaking
Topic: Past simple and Present perfect
Objective: Students will be able to practice the conjugation of verbs in the past simple and the past participle and to speak about their past experiences.
Welcome back, guys! As you know, we’ve been working on the differences between the past simple and the present perfect. Today, you will have the opportunity to practice everything you’ve learned so far :)
1. First, we will do a short warm-up. Here, you will have to identify which time expressions belong to the past simple and which ones to the present perfect. https://wordwall.net/es/resource/44095340
2. Now, I hope you like music. We are going to practice the conjugation of some verbs in the past simple and the past participle with a song. For this, go to the following link: Ed Sheeran - Castle On The Hill | Vídeo Musical, Letra de la Canción y Karaoke (lyricstraining.com)
You will be directed to this page. You have to click on Go to lyricstraining.com on the top corner of the screen.
You must listen attentively to the song and fill the blanks. Please take into account that there will be some words to fill that are not verbs conjugations. However, most of them are.
3. Now, I want you to create a collage with pictures that remind you of your childhood. It can be your own photos, pictures of toys you loved, places you visited, friends you had, etc. For this you can use Canva: Online Photo Collage Maker - Create Free Collages | Canva or PhotoCollage Create online photo collages - PhotoCollage.com or feel free to use any app you want.
4. It’s time for you to put your knowledge in practice. I want you to think about your childhood and your adolescence. How was life when you were younger? What did you like to do? How were you friends like? What about your family? Have you changed? How has your life changed? When you feel ready, record yourself talking about it. The audio must be between 2 to 5 minutes.
And please remember the rules of pronunciation for verbs with -ed endings:
I hope you enjoy these activities, and don’t forget that if you have any questions, you can send me an e-mail: andrea.viscue@correounivalle.edu.co
I liked the order of the activities. The use of the website to fill in the lyrics of the song is very interesting, it was difficult for me to understand some parts and I think it will help me to continue using this type of exercise. The use of different modes in the activity became notable.
ReplyDeleteHi Andréa, I liked the time expressions activity. I think it is useful for students to start differentiating verbal tenses. I went though all activities and felt they are very nice, however, I felt you need a better transition between them. For example, after the song, I felt you did not make a connection to it. It is important to refer to it and also focus on meaning and not leave to the practice of the grammar. I felt disconnection between the collage and the last written activity. why not connecting them? If the do a collage they should write about it or record a message talking or explaining it. I don't think the pronunciation explanation was necessary. It is too much. Student won't understand that. A lesson should not be overloaded and also remember that this is a take home task. So, in short, you have very good activities, but they need a little more connection and explotation, in terms of exploring meanings.
